The Black Mountain Rowing Club (BMRC) is located on Black Mountain Peninsula at the western end of Lake Burley Griffin.  It is in a prime position, being adjacent to the main Canberra rowing course. Lake Burley Griffin offers some of the most picturesque rowing in Australia, as can be seen in the above photo by Adrian Kelson of a BMRC rower (look out for our distinctive and elegant red blades) during the annual Canberra Balloon Festival.

Membership of BMRC is open to all and it is the second largest community rowing club in Canberra with membership hovering around the 160 mark.  BMRC is a friendly club that welcomes new members throughout the year. We are particularly keen to hear from you if you are thinking of getting back into our wonderful sport after a break ....and we try to accommodate experienced visiting rowers keen for a guest paddle.

Club members regularly compete in events, both locally and interstate, including the annual Australian Masters Rowing Championships and the Head of the Yarra.  Over recent years, we have consistently ranked highly on pointscore in these masters regattas, where our small Club competes against others with much larger membership bases.

We are particularly proud of member Luke Letcher, who started rowing at Radford College before joining BMRC.  Luke, participating in his first Olympic Games, charged home to a wonderful Bronze Medal in the Mens Quad at the Tokyo Olympics. Luke is now a Director on the Rowing Australia Board and is Chair of the Rowing Australia Athletes' Commission.

Our Club does like to WIN…….but we also welcome members who want to row for recreation only.  We hold several social events during the year, including working bees, barbecues and Christmas functions, so there are many ways to participate in the great community that is BMRC.

BMRC is proud partner in an ambitious new project - The Red Shed - launching in 2024.  https://redshed.org.au/ . The Red Shed's mission is ' Rowing for All', offering learn-to-row and other coaching programs to school students and the community . A public lakeside café and gym, along with a functions venue for hire complete this magnificent new facility on Black Mountain Peninsula .
