So you’ve got a few skills but haven’t been able to make that soldered joint look like it was done by a professional? You’ve heard about NMEA2000, N2K, and NMEA0183 but it’s all goobly gook to you. You’re wanting to upgrade your marine electronics and don’t know which way to go.

This course demystifies a lot of the jargon and will show you how to do the basic tasks really well. We’ll look at selecting the rights cables and how to join them. Crimp versus soldering, heatshrink vs tape.

We use a multi-meter to test various parts of an electrical circuit and go through the do’s and don’t when setting up a system. Some basic checks on your radios and how to recognise your main batteries are on the way out.

The course is highly geared to helping you perform your own maintenance and fix faults in your electrical system. We all know water and electricity don’t mix but we can design a system that keeps them apart.

This course is divided into two parts.

Session 1 covers soldering, cable termination, crimping and use of test equipment such as multi-meters.

Session 2 covers interconnecting systems through networks, ethernet and other protocols.
