Child Safe Standards

As a result of the 2013 Betrayal of Trust Parliamentary Inquiry, the Victorian government has implemented compulsory standards for organisations that provide services to children to help protect children from abuse. As such, these standards will apply to Beaumaris Yacht Club from 1 January 2017.

Child Safe Standards include aspects such as instigating a culture of child safety as well as having a child safe policy and code of conduct in place. These documents will establish clear guidelines and expectations for how we work with children. Strategies to identify and remove the risks of child abuse will also be put in place.

The BYC Child Safe Subcommittee has been formed to ensure that our club meets these standards.

The Child Safe Standards resulted in a number of measures being implemented at the beginning of 2017. The committee therefore asks for all members’ support and understanding in implementing these important changes.
