The Batemans Bay Regatta is the largest annual sailing event on the NSW South Coast. The regatta has been going for over 40 years. Although the regatta is most popular with South Coast and Canberra sailors, contestants come from all over south east Australia. Traditionally it is held on the closest weekend to ANZAC Day. This year it will take place on the Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April.
The regatta is open to all off-the-beach dinghies and catamarans as well as trailerable yachts and sports boats. Usually the Sharpie, Flying Dutchman, Tasar, Laser, Cherub, Maricat, Taipan and Hobie 14 and 16 classes are well represented. Any class of boat with a fleet of five or more boats entered will race against each other for class based prizes. All other boats race in yardstick/CBH handicapped divisions.
Batemans Bay is one of the finest ocean sailing venues in NSW. Unspoilt scenery is guaranteed. The resident dolphins will nearly always put in an appearance. While the Batemans Bay Sailing Club is mainly keelboat based, most members of the club who are not competing will be helping to run the event in one capacity or another.
