HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
To all competitive Junior players:
Badminton WA is launching a new High Performance Programme to align with the High Performance Pathway established by Badminton Australia. The intention is to develop the skills, knowledge and fitness of our top Junior players to enable them to successfully represent Western Australia, and hopefully progress to an international playing standard.

We are looking to provide a rolling, annual, High Performance Programme with continuous training and education of the State’s strongest players, on a weekly basis, taking into account upcoming activities and events. These sessions will be held on a Sunday afternoon for the U13, U15, U17 and U19 age categories and the intention is to include the top 10 boys and top 10 girls in each age group.
Normal sessions will include 1/2 hour of High Intensity Training and then an hour of competitive training against 'A Reserve and Open players. There will be two sessions, the first for U13 and U15, the second for U17 and U19. These groups will be called our WA STATE SQUADS. In addition to these sessions there will also be education and development activities.

The main objective of the squad is not to duplicate the essential training that our academies already provide. It is to build teams for our state and to push our best athletes to the limit of their abilities.

Coaches will be present to coordinate activities and games while our state's highest level players will challenge our juniors and make it difficult for them to win. We are hoping to include as many high level players as possible so that it allows the uniors to be confronted with different playing styles, strengthsand weaknesses and new techniques. It is also intended that they will provide 'in game'
support, encouragement and advice. The main aim is to push our juniors out of their comfort zone so that they experience high level play before representing their state and hopefully country.
Participation in the High Performance programme will be an eligibility requirement for State Team selection. Squad Training will be held on a Sunday afternoon during school term times, coordinated around other competitions and events. The first term will run on the following dates:

o 28/01/24 - Nominations Close
o 11/02/24 - Squad Trials- if required
o 18/02/24 - Squads announced
o 25/02/24, 03/03/24, 17/03/24 - Squad Training Session

Based on current scheduling, there will be 26 sessions per year at a cost of $35 per session. The intention is to keep the cost of participation to below $1000 per year.

Trials (if required) for the squad will be held at Kingsway Stadium on Sunday the 11th February from 13:00 to 14:30 for U13/U15 and 14:30 to 16:00 for the U17/U19.

Nominations must be received by 28/01/2024.
