Badminton Victoria Supports Community Engagement Amidst Proposed Centre Concerns

Published Tue 09 Jul 2024

In recent discussions surrounding the proposed badminton centre, Badminton Victoria (BV), as the governing body for the sport in Victoria, acknowledges community concerns related to parking, safety, and social behaviour. While these issues fall under the jurisdiction of local authorities, we emphasise the broader benefits of badminton in fostering community connections and inclusivity.

Earlier today, CEO of BV, Clint Proctor highlighted that badminton facilities often serve as multipurpose hubs that promote social interaction and provide recreational opportunities for diverse demographics. You couldn't find any safer and welcoming sport, honestly. I know and hear many stories about how badminton provides social connection and gives people a purpose to be involved in the community.”

"Many community centres already feature multipurpose facilities, so proposing a dedicated badminton facility opens up numerous opportunities for the community. It's crucial that the council considers soundproofing and parking during the planning phase to meet all necessary requirements. These are critical areas that require careful attention."

As badminton continues to grow in Victoria, it serves as a vital platform for engagement with hard-to-reach communities, offering a unique alternative to traditional sports. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that enhance community well-being through sport.
