This event will focus on developing confidence in your car by first understanding the concepts of car preparation, braking, cornering and track etiquette. Our knowledgeable club members will take you through information regarding car set-up and make sure you feel comfortable in your car before you head on to the track. You will have opportunity to test the braking ability of your car through some speed braking tests. The theory of cornering will be explained and track markers will help with this learning process. Having a parent or club member in the passenger seat may help to impart knowledge to help you feel confident and improve your lap times. We encourage you to bring your own passenger (they must be a AWDCC member, have a CAMS or AASA license and sign a passenger indemnity form), we will also have club members who can volunteer to be your passenger.
There will be a maximum of 6 cars on the track at any time, spaced out to minimise overtaking. You will be placed in a group with others of similar experience or lap times.
You will need a CAMS or AASA licence to compete, these can be purchased as a one-off day licence for $25. AWDCC is giving free one-day club membership to those who are not presently members of a car club.
Important: you must read the supplementary regulations. They will let you know the clothing and equipment requirements you will need as well as how the event will run. Your car will need to pass scrutineering, refer to the supplementary regulations for what is involved in this. We strongly recommend you have a 1kg fire extinguisher fitted inside the car within reach of the driver, however this is not mandatory for the driver development day. A first aid team and rescue vehicle will be stationed at the track.
