RPAYC Pittwater Regatta 10th & 11th February
Two ASC boats entered the Pittwater Regatta last weekend to join 44 boats across 4 PHS divisions, for 3 races over the two days. The weather gods delivered spectacular conditions on Saturday with 15 - 25Kts S - SE and a huge runout tide. It was a great course that started in the pond near Scotland Island then around a mark laid off Box Head, then a mark off Challenger Head, then a Patonga Mark and back to Scotland Island. ASC Etchell Greybeard radioed in to announce they wouldn’t be competing - and that was a wise choice as the fleet enjoyed a wild ride from Box Head past Lion to Challenger that would have been too much for the Etchells.
Kookaburra finished 6th out of 14 entries in Division 2. Intrepid crew member Bruce Walters compiled some great video footage: https://vimeo.com/911788788/ddd6582571
The weather gods decided on a different challenge for Sunday serving up plenty of sunshine with a weak Easterly sea breeze. RPAYC set courses that were predominately windward leeward roundings in “the Pond” with a reach up or down Pittwater. These conditions were much better suited to the Etchell with Greybeard posting two 3rd places in Division 3. Kookaburra had another good day and despite a poor start in the final race still managed a 5th and 6th, to finish 5th overall in Division 2.
Next year we plan to have the calendar clear for the Pittwater Championship so that all Avalon boats can enjoy this fabulous regatta on our home waters.

SailGP Adopt a Club - Feb 23rd Tour Spots Available !
I hope you are as excited as I am that Avalon has been selected for the Adopt a club SailGP Program as the teams prepare for the Sydney SailGP event on the 24th & 25th February. Ten clubs have been selected, with each assigned to one of the SailGP teams. Avalon has been aligned with team France who will fly our club flag on their boat !
The package includes a tour of the French Team Base at White Bay on Friday 23rd at 5:30pm for 30 club members. Two delegates to attend the Champions for Change sustainability leaders event and discount codes for Genesis Island and BYOB tickets. We have nominated coaches Sabine & Rose as our champions for change delegates.
I've been to see Sydney SailGP races every year, and it is truly spectacular to see these boats whistling by at up to 50Kts as they race in a fleet of 10 around marks. You get great viewing for free from Bradleys head. If you want to see the full course and get the premium experience then use our discount code to get $215 tickets at Genesis Island with AUSCLUB15
The BYOBoat ticket is $1,200 with our 20% discount AUSCLUB20 and allows you to take a boat into the exclusion zone right on the course for the weekend. Unfortunately the club doesn't have a suitable boat at the moment with Lucinda needing work on her keel.
There are still spots available to go on the French Team Base tour on Friday 23rd. So register your interest against this event on our website and we will announce those selected before Feb16th: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/avalonsailingclub/events/225541
Pittwater Classic Yacht & Dinghy Regatta - 2nd & 3rd March
Following hot on the heels of last year’s successful Couta Nationals, we are very excited to announce that Avalon will be hosting the inaugural Pittwater Classic Regatta with BYRA. This fabulous concept is a passion of Larry Eastwood whose aim is to create an event that will become a staple on the season’s calendar for classic boats.
Avalon will be hosting the yachts with BYRA hosting the dinghies on their lawn. Saturday will be a series of races around courses on Pittwater, with a pursuit race around Islands on Sunday. A concourse display of the dinghies will be held at BYRA on Sunday morning. BYRA will host the main event on Saturday evening with Avalon providing the entertainment on Friday and/or Sunday. We will be running tender services with the big RIBs between clubs.
We would really like to see all the classic yachts on Pittwater show up for this special occassion with those not wishing to "race" having the option of joining the Parade of Sail on Sunday. If you have a classic yacht, or a friend who has one - please promote this event and encourage them to participate.
Details and entry are on ourwebsite: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/avalonsailingclub/news/pittwater-classic-regatta
