Your Discover Sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamental skills of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a safe and supportive environment.This course is for beginner sailors aged between 7 and 14.

They will learn;

  • about the weather and wind direction
  • how to rig boats 
  • know the parts of boats
  • launch and retreive the boats
  • to sail to windward
  • how to right a capsized boat

All the time having fun and learning to enjoy being on the water.

This course is open to anyone though there is a requirement for each sailor to register with Australian Sailing prior to registering for this course.


Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate.
