ASC has a progression of centreboard classes to suit all levels and ages. The O’pen Skiff (former O'pen Bic) is a modern, single-handed junior skiff that offers great performance and fun. The O'pen Skiff was introduced to the ASC class line-up in 2011 and has since generated interest and fast growth across Australia. It also has an international flowing as a recognised ISAF class.
Typically the helmsman is aged 10~14 and the ideal weight for sailing a O'pen Skiff is 45Kg. Maximum weight for a O'pen Skiff is 90Kg. Sailors in the 30-40Kg weight range may find the boat a challenge in higher winds strengths. There is an O’pen Skiff association active in Australia running regattas as well as State and National competitions. ASC hosted the first round of the NSW O’pen BIC Cup in 2012 with 33 sailors competing.
Coaching suitable to skill levels is provided at all levels, using both internal and external coaching resources.
