University Nationals
Formerly known as UniGames, this national competition is organised by UniSport Australia. The competition involves universities from all over the country coming together to compete in several sports to represent their pride and skill.
UniSport Nationals provide an opportunity for students at our 43 member universities from across Australia to compete head to head in a number of national standard sporting competitions. Nationals are comprised of UniSport Australia's flagship event, UniSport Nationals, and a number of standalone national championships throughout the year. The winners from each sport in UniSport Nationals will be combined with the winners of the various Nationals Championships throughout the year to name one university the Overall Nationals Champions.
As part of the competition, UniSport Nationals host a Pride Day. The Day demonstrates our members’ passion for supporting and embracing inclusion and diversity through sport. It aims to increase visibility and provide education and awareness to student-athletes. We are encouraging students to be an Ally - someone who stands up for and encourages the people around them to understand and support the subjects of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
Touch
Adelaide University Touch Club regularly recruits and organises for teams of university students to compete in the Mixed, Mens or Womens Touch Football events at either Division 1 or 2. The club undergoes trials and training as a squad as early as 6 months prior to the start of the competition. This allows the squad to develop as a team and gel playing styles before entering the competition.
**Please Note: You must be enrolled as a University of Adelaide Student for the current academic year to be considered as a playing participant for University Nationals.**
Team Coaches and Managers may not need to be active university students to attend University Nationals, but they must be financial members of the club.
Registration Fees
Along with transportation costs (flights, car hire, taxis etc.), the competition requires individual team registration, as well as accommodation costs. In line with the AUSF code of conduct, the accommodation and registration fees will be packaged for students to purchase, with the honus on the individual to organise return flights to and from the host city.
In total, the club estimates that a University Nationals trip will cost between $1100 and $1300 for the 'essential' fee requirements. Further food and drink costs are not included in this estimate.
The club regularly hosts fundraising events in the lead-up to the trip to help subsidise the costs for players in an effort to encourage attendance if finances are a concern.
In 2023, the UniNationals Competition will be held on the Gold Coast. In previous years, it has been held in Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, and Geelong.
