Adelaide University Swimming Club

Welcome all! The Adelaide University Swimming Club is a social and casual swimming club. We help our members improve their fitness, technique and times. Starting 31st July 2024, the Adelaide Aquatic Centre will cease operations and close to prepare for the redevelopment to a new Aquatic Centre. Due to this, Adelaide University Swimming Club will hold sessions at Freedom Fitness from 1 August onwards, every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:20pm to 8:40pm. Freedom Fitness is a fitness club which is only an 18-minute walk from The University of Adelaide North Terrace campus.Click on our 'Info on Sessions' page to find out more!

Minimum experience requirement

We require that you are able to swim the basic techniques of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke for 100m non-stop. It's ok if you aren't sure you can reach this - you're welcome to come along to a session to see how training sessions work. Unfortunately, we are unable to teach swimming to beginners. However, we may be running one-off events for beginners within the year so stay tuned to our social media!

How do we work?

We will hire a pool very near the city, close to the University of Adelaide North Terrace campus, and train for one hour, twice a week in the evenings (6-7 pm). We will have a slow and medium/fast lane, where swimmers can assign themselves to one of those lanes. Each lane is given an easy (1-1.8km) and medium/hard (1.8-3km) set or program to complete within the training session. If there is time, we will have a fun relay between lanes just to test our swimming abilities and for some competitive spirit. We also hold regular social events outside the pool, so members can get to know their fellow swimmers and students.
