Course information

Course Overview

This course aims to teach cadets how to deliver the first two courses of the Powerboat Program including Start Powerboating and Powerboat Handling. Participants will learn and practise effective techniques for theory and practical instructing with continuous feedback and support.

Course Prerequisites

  • Be 16 years old and Water Confident
  • Comply with the State/Territory legislation including, but not only, child protection laws (if applicable in that state)
  • Hold the level of competence in the Program they wish to instruct
  • Complete the Instructor General Principles
  • Hold a current Applied First Aid Certificate
  • Hold a  current maritime licence, or state equivalent
  • Hold an Australian Sailing Powerboat Handling Certificate

Who should do this course?

This course is for cadets looking to become a Powerboat Instructor and instruct the Powerboat program at an accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

The course aims to develop skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • General Instructing skills - Communication, planning, risk management, etc
  • Fundamental powerboat skills: low speed manoeuvres, high speed manoeuvres  
  • Providing feedback

Pending your success, you will gain the Powerboat Instructor qualification.
