Event information
Registrations for this event are closed.
This trip will be for club members who who have climbed with the club before and are Yellow and Blue badge or are naturally good teachers and leaders who easily pick up and understand climbing systems.
We want to train people up to be able to run Arapiles trips in the future and to be able to teach beginner skills
To attend you don’t need to have done any trad climbing before and you don’t have to climb hard grades. But because of limited space we will have to be quite selective on who we can take so you need to be able to:
- Demonstrate basic sport learning
- Catch a lead belay
- Intend to stay with the club in the future or have been in the club a long time
- Have confident leadership skills
- Understand the need for climbing safety
- Identify climbing risks and hazards
- Demonstrate knots including Clove, Munter and Girth hitches, Alpine Butterfly, prussic, overhand knot and re-threaded and on-the-bight Figure 8.
The skills we will be working on during the training will be:
- Correct placement of nuts, cams and hexes.
- Building multiple types of trad anchors
- Avoiding rope drag
- Setting an abseil/rappell
- Hauling a seconder
- Lowering a seconder
- Ascending a rope
After the four day course we can stay there for the weekend as well and put the skills to test.
Associated trip costs:
- a gear rental fee of $10 (plus transaction cost) if you require any club gear - we will send you an invoice for this.
- camping fees which you will have to arrange with your driver to book and pay yourself.
- fuel cost spilt between cars.
