Mt Feathertop Alpine Walk EOI
Details
Event information
Sorry, this trip is now full.
This winter we're heading over to the Victorian Alps for a snow walk at Mt Feathertop.
To attend this walk, you will need to have a reasonably high level of fitness as the first day is quite a long, steep hill. For reference, it's like doing the height of Mt Lofty 2.5 times but at a twice as steep incline and while carrying a pack. You will also need to have been a multiday walk with the AUMC before.
Trip plan:
On the first day, we'll do the drive over (11 hours).
The first day of the walk will involve a steep walk up the mountain with an 1100m elevation gain. This will take us through the lower temperate forest up to the alpine environment and we'll hopefully see some snow at the top. We'll then either stay in MUMC hut or camp on the snow outside.
On the second day of the walk, we'll head over to Federation hut where we'll camp on the snow. We'll also try to go up Mt Feathertop summit if conditions are suitable.
On day 3 of the walk we'll head back down through the forest to where we've left cars at the end of the walk.
Then those who are heading straight back to Adelaide can get going and Joe and I will probably stick around for a bit while we're over there and do some bits and pieces in the area. Others are also welcome to join but it won't be part of the club trip.
Gear required: Please see below list. You will need to buy some of your own snow gear but the club can provide alpine tents and snow shoes.
