Marschalls Hut Overnight Hike
Details
Event information
REGISTRATION
This is a beginner hike, which means you don't need any previous overnight experience to come along! We will be hiking a small amount each day (roughly 10km) so it is mainly about spending the night at this hut. The cap on this trip is 12 people just because of the capacity of the hut. If you have any questions either text me on Facebook (Max Floreani) or text me on 0477 135 597 :)
PRICE
If you need to borrow a tent or sleeping bag there will be a 10$ gear use fee. Even though we are sleeping in a hut, you never know if people will be there so we will need to bring enough tents to camp out if we need to.
HIKE DETAILS + ITINERARY
We will leave Adelaide at 11am on Saturday (can take people from UniBar if needed), and drive to Kapunda where we will all meet up and drive to our first car shuffle spot and start of the hike (34°13'50.3"S 138°52'37.6"E). From here we will walk roughly 11km to the hut where we should have enough time to enjoy the sun before it disappears.
On Sunday we can take our time for as long as we want, slacklining etc. The walk out will be roughly 10km to the second car shuffle spot (34°09'06.4"S 138°53'25.9"E) and then we will do the car shuffle and head back to Adelaide.
TRANSPORT
We can all carpool to Kapunda, and we can work this out on a group chat later :)
WHAT TO BRING
It might rain on Sunday and it will be cold overnight so make sure that you bring nice warm clothing (thermals and warm socks to get real cozy) and also a rain jacket. Again, if the hut is full we will need enough tents to make sure everyone has a place to sleep (it is a good idea to share a tent if possible to save weight in your pack). It is also best to share cooking stoves/ maybe pots too (put on the registration form if you need anything along these lines from the gear room). Below is a good packing list if you need it:
Items with a * can be borrowed from the club
SHARED GEAR
TENT*
HIKING STOVE* + FUEL
COOKING POTS*
CAMPING/HIKING GEAR
Hiking pack*
Means of carrying roughly 3L of water (There will be water at the hut but best to be safe)
A way to waterproof all your items in your bag (Dry bags are best but bin bags if needed)
Sleeping bag*
Sleeping mat*
Head torch with working batteries
Cutlery
1 night dinner, and 1 breakfast (This is a good chance to prepare (and maybe intimidate others) for the AUMC Camp Cooking Competition so lets see ur snazzy hut meals)
Water purifying tablets
I will be bringing some port which I consider absolutely necessary but you're welcome to bring whatever drinks you would like as long as u can carry them :))
