Event information

This event has passed.

International Student Support (ISS) have again invited us to come help on the annual ISS x AUMC walk. If you'd like to be involved from our end, you'll be helping to run the walk, keep the group together, represent our club etc.

Transport:

You can meet everyone in front of the Adelaide Railway Station at 9:30am for the 9:56am train to Belair or meet at Belair Station at 10:25am.

General walking management principles:

You'll probably need to split into leaders walking at the front of the group and at the back (might be multiple groups if they have a lot of students). The front students tend to race off and the back tend to dawdle and take photos so stop as needed to keep everyone together. If people are struggling on hills etc, try to walk slowly at the front so people don't keep getting puffed out and having to stop frequently. And always give the back of the group a rest when you stop so they don't just catch up and then immediately have to start again.

Walk suggestions:

You can do any of the walks as you see fit but suggestions that generally work well are below:

1) Waterfalls walk. 12km. Walk to Karka Pavilion for lunch. Then do the Waterfalls walk and head back via Echo Tunnel before returning to the station. https://maps.app.goo.gl/aiYWHq94NQBf4zfn7

2) Echo Tunnel and Adventure Playground. 8.5km. Head out towards Echo Tunnel (can take either route there but the tunnel itself is usually a highlight). Then loop around and come back via the Adventure Playground for lunch (which has a good picnic area). https://maps.app.goo.gl/UVQn7oPVdGYNmpfY9

AUMC info:

We do lots of activities including bushwalking, rock climbing, kayaking etc.

Indoor climbing on Tuesday nights is the best regular event to get involved with and there are buses that go there.

Our membership is $15 for a year (goes until Dec 31). AU sport membership is free for Adelaide uni students (which international students will be) but their non uni friends would have to pay an extra $93 to join AU sport.

Thanks for helping run this walk, let me know if you have any questions. Unfortunately I can't be there myself but it's great to have you to help out.
