Event information

Late registrations for this event are closed.

If you are new to AUMC and would like to go kayaking, then you need to do this basic skills course (or equivalent) before you join a kayak trip.

We will practice forwards, backwards and sideways paddling, turning, stopping, support strokes, capsizes and rescues.
You need to wear suitable clothing including bathers, shorts or leggings, boatshoes or sneakers which can get wet (not thongs, sandals or crocs), a rashie or long sleeved synthetic shirt and hat.

Bring a towel and change of clothes, as you will get wet in the capsizes and rescues. Waterbottle and snacks recommended, and sunglasses on a leash  are useful. Also bring a fleece and a light windproof jacket if it is cold. AUMC will supply kayaks, paddles, lifejackets and spraydecks. There is a toilet block at the paddle site.

Meet at the Uni boatshed Foreman St West Beach at 10am. We will share transport. It is expected that you will start and finish at the Boatshed, so don't go directly to West Beach, West Lakes or anywhere else as you will not find us!

If you do not drive, you can catch a bus (J1) from the city. Get off at Tapleys Hill Rd Stop 13 and walk across to the Boatsheds (next to AU Hockey ground). One of us will give you a lift back to the city afterwards
