Activities at Para Wirra

Come along to the first camp of the year at Para Wirra Conversation Park! Spend the weekend getting to know your fellow AUMC members as you hike and relax at the scenic Mt Lofty Ranges.

Native animals

You may run into kangaroos, emus, and shingle-back lizards at this conservation park. Bird enthusiasts can spot any of 138 bird species, including the crescent honeyeater, diamond firetail, and white-winged chough.

Stargazing

If there are no clouds on the night, we’ll have spectacular view of the Milky Way. Just before dawn, the planets Mercery, Saturn, Venus, and Mars will be visible together low on the eastern horizon. One of our members is bringing a telescope, so you might get a chance to see Saturn and Jupiter up close.

Bushwalking

There are thirteen bushwalking trails to explore at Para Wirra CP, from the quiet lake near our campgrounds to rock formations at Wild Dog Creek valley. If you’re looking for a challenge, the Devils Nose hike will take you up the hill and reward you will an amazing view of the Barossa Ranges.

Camping

Our overnight campsite is equipped with a toilets, a BBQ and even a kitchenette.

As a member of the Mountain Club, you can hire gear for free on this trip. So don’t worry if you don’t have a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, or trangia.

Getting there

You will need to drive or carpool to this location. Carpool arrangements can be organised for you by the event organiser.

Detailed instructions for how to get to the campgrounds and where to leave your car overnight will be provided a week before the event.
