AUJC at the 2022 Judo National Titles

2022 Festival of Judo at the Nationals

10th to 13th June; Carrara Stadium, Broadbeach, QLD

There was a huge weekend of judo up at the Gold Coast over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend with a JudoSA State Team participating with players and officials from many of the Judo Clubs in SA.

AUJC had a record 11 players at this year’s National titles in almost every category, Junior and Senior kata, Senior Boys and Girls, Cadets, Junior & Senior Women, Senior Men, Kyu Men and Women and Veteran Men!!! Everyone did their best and fought well, with the Club getting 3 Gold medals, 5 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals.

  • Tom Brunet & Reuben Bowden-Smit Silver Medal Nage-no-kata 3G
  • Tom Brunet Gold Medal Senior Boys U32
  • Reuben Bowden-Smit Bronze Medal Senior Boys U36
  • Isaac Choi Won a fight Senior Boys U50 (22 in pool!)
  • Yeonsue Choi Gold Medal Senior Girls U44
  • Olivia Hobby Silver Medal Junior Women U63
  • Tea Mockford Won a fight Cadet Women U57 (14 in pool)
  • Susanne Wells Came 7th Senior Women U57
  • Olivia Hobby Bronze Senior Women U63
  • Shamit Singla Fought well Senior Men U60 (11 in pool)
  • Christian Alber Injured, won a fight Senior Men U90
  • Shamit Singla Came 7th Kyu Men U60
  • Susanne Wells Golden Score Kyu Women U57
  • Christian Alber Gold Medal Veteran Mens V2 U90

The Club had 3 officials supporting the team, Michael Headland (JA Kata Commission), Meera Verma (Kata judge and shiai scoring) and Deborah Brunet (JudoSA State Team Manager).

It was a great experience for our players who attended their first ever Nationals, all of them are keen to train again for next year! Our more experienced members did well and are also committed to attending the Nationals again in 2023.

Congratulations also to members of Kazoku Judo Club, Parafield Gardens JC, Whyalla JC, UniSA and Flinders Uni JC who all competed well and medalled at the Nationals.

Some of the players stayed on to participate in the Nationals Training Camp for the last few days! Never enough judo…
