AUBC Code of Conduct

The policy shall be binding for the Adelaide University Basketball Club (AUBC) players, members and others representing the Club. This Code of Conduct aims to set out the minimum standards for anyone involved in representing AU Basketball. It shall apply when playing, training or taking part in AU Basketball Club sanctioned activities.


The Adelaide University Basketball Club (AUBC) exists to serve club members through organising social events and facilitating competitive basketball. It is paramount that AUBC ensures a safe environment for all members at all of our events. This document is intended to make AUBC members aware of their responsibilities at AUBC events and understand the repercussions if they ignore their responsibilities. When signing up as a Member of the AUBC, individuals agree to abide by the Code of Conduct.


This document was approved, in principle, by the AUBC committee on 26th July 2021 with the implementation occurring for all future memberships and events.

When playing and training:

  • Play by and respect rules and guidelines
  • Arrive a minimum of 5 minutes prior to training commencement and 20 minutes prior to game commencement
  • Show respect to coaches, players, opposition, spectators and umpires.
  • Display respectful and reasonable behaviour at all times.
  • No confrontation or talking back to umpires. If there is a problem, get your coach or team captain to approach the umpire.
  • Promote fair play whether winning or losing.
  • Encourage and support teammates and fellow colleagues in all regards.
  • Ensure you contribute to a safe environment for all involved.
  • Do not tolerate behaviour that may feel threatening or abusive.
  • Work hard for your team and yourself. Do not give up.
  • Respect all individuals involved in the sport regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, religion.
  • Be a financial member of the club and remain up to date with any club costs.
  • Play to enjoy the game.
  • Be a good sport.
  • Shake all opponents’ hands at the end of a match.
     

When attending social events:

Alcohol
Alcohol is served at many AUBC events for the enjoyment of our Members. The AUBC promotes responsible consumption of alcohol at all of our events. This includes only serving alcohol to members over 18 years of age. Where possible, discounted 'Non-Alcohol' tickets to events are available for members who are under 18 or choose not to drink alcohol.
Members are encouraged to drink responsibly and know their own limits regarding alcohol consumption. Drinking to intoxication is dangerous for your health and can put yourself and others at an increased risk of physical harm.
While drinking alcohol, you remain responsible for your own actions and, should they contravene the details of this document, the AUBC reserves the right to refuse entry to subsequent events.

Illicit substances 
The AUBC has zero tolerance for illicit substances at any of its events.
Any Members found to be in possession or under the influence of illicit substances at any AUBC events may, at the discretion of the AUBC Executive, be evicted from the event and may be prohibited from attending future events.

Behaviour 
The AUBC has zero tolerance for behaviour that:

  • Is against the law;
  • Places others in danger; and,
  • Reflects poorly on the club 

Examples of such behaviour include, but are not limited to:

  • Verbal abuse and verbal harassment;
  • Physical abuse and physical assault;
  • Sexual harassment and sexual assault;
  • Theft;
  • Damage to property, and;
  • Cyberbullying

 

Members of the AUBC are responsible for their own actions and will be held accountable by the AUBC Executive. The AUBC cannot, and will not, protect Members from persecution by the Police or other law enforcement agency should they break the law.

Should a Member of the AUBC be found to have stolen goods or damaged property, they will be requested to pay for damages and/or return/replace any stolen items.

The AUBC Executive reserves the right to evict any Member that contravenes the details of this document from any event and prohibit entry into subsequent AUBC events. Disciplinary action with be determined using the Behaviour Matrix as per the AUBC Behaviour Management Procedures.
