Benefits of Membership
Artistic Swimming Judges are essential for running artistic swimming competitions as they provide scores based on the performance of each routine.
They are also responsible for marking grade-level assessments.
All Artistic Swimming judges must be expertly trained to reduce subjectivity in scoring. They require a complete understanding of FINA and Swim Australia's rules and regulations for artistic swimming competitions.
Registering with Artistic Swimming (ASA) as a member is more than just paying a financial fee. Below we have outlined the membership ecosystem and how you can collaborate for purpose and help drive the sport of Artistic Swimming forward.
1. Team Australia – We are very fortunate at ASA that we have the support of Hancock Prospecting, our principal supporter. Without the support of Hancock Prospecting and our Patron Gina Reinhart we would struggle to run such a professional high-performance program. As great as the support is from Hancock Prospecting, it only covers the Olympic-focused squad, and it does not reach down to the Junior, Youth, and Emerging Squads 100% self-financed by parents and ASA.
The graphs below provide an outline of ASA’s income and expenditure.
Parents of younger athletes are contributing approximately $12,000 per child to Team Australia.
The ASA contribution of up to $50,000 annually comes directly from your membership fees.
We want to do more for our young athletes, so as a member, you should have confidence you are contributing to the future of the sport; and when your watch the Australian Team compete at the Olympic Games, you know you have collaborated with a purpose to help make sure that athlete has the right support to get there!
2. Sport Development – In addition to supporting young athletes, ASA promotes a wide range of activities to develop the sport and acts as a voice to lobby in the sport's best interest with the Aquatics industry sector. Below are a few examples of recent work:
- Lobbying Commonwealth Games Australia, FINA, and Commonwealth Games Federation for inclusion of Artistic Swimming in the Commonwealth Games.
- Forming an Aquatics Australia lobbying body with Swimming Australia, Water Polo Australia, and Diving Australia to represent the sport at FINA, the aquatics industry sector, and Sport Australia.
- Development of an eLearning portal for all the ASA learning and development materials
- Development of new Foundation courses for Coach and Judge Education
- Hosting a FINA World Series
- Supporting grant and university applications for states, clubs, individuals through expert support, insights, and supporting letters
- Promoting a ‘This Boy Can’ campaign to get more male athletes into the sport
Below is an outline of the various factors in the development pathway for the sport:
