Corporate Give it a Go Day 2025 a great attraction
Published Sun 23 Feb 2025
Paddle For Life Club worked in conjunction with Aoraki Dragons to put on a great introductory day to Businesses in the area, at our local lake near Christchurch Airport.
Aoraki and PFL thank the managers of those teams for their vision and leadership to give their people a great experience at Lake Rua.
Dorothy McPhail, president of Paddle For Life Dragon Boat Club called on the resources and manpower of all the members of their teams - Abreast of Life, and Amazon Hearts - to host this FUNdraising event, open to local businesses.
They recruited 21 teams, including:
- Hospitals (St Georges Hospital and Southern Cross Healthcare),
- Local hotels (The George, Latimer Lodge and the Sudima),
- Educators Papanui High School, and The Antarctic Centre,
- Hanlon Plumbing & Pipe Services Ltd, Claas Harvest Centre Canterbury, Lyttelton Port Company,
- Finance and marketing specialist like Antony and Mates cretive design, The Mortgage Girls, Brown Glassford farming accountants, Gallagher Insurance, Dual NZ Insurance,
- and real estate business like Mike Greer Homes, Ray White Canterbury Real Estate and Misco Joinery Limited
They brought their tents, their energy, their chants and (for most) their fantastic dress-up gear for a session that started with land based instruction, a quick setting of seating positions, then water-based coaching of the team on the way to the other end of the lake (300 metres or so).
And then their first 250m Heat. Whew!
Back to the tents for a debrief, discussion of how much fun that was, and what needs improving.
Then out for another Heat to iron out the wrinkles (and marvel at the improved race time).
And finally, into the Industry-sector-based Divisions for a Grand Final (or Minor Final). This time the competition was most fierce, as teams were closely matched, and industry rivalry brought extra motivation.
And at the end of a fun day, these companies take away a more cohesive team that can learn quickly to respond to challenging environments.
