We had 22 teams racing this year: SIX (6) teams in Small Boat Mixed; FIVE (5) teams in Standard Boat Mixed; 4 teams in Small Boat Women; and 7 teams in Standard Boat Women. Note, that is a last minute change, when one team slipped down to having just 12 paddlers, so couldn't race as a Standard Boat.
Racing in Standard Boats (Champion) for all divisions, 8 boats for running 4 lanes:
- One 1,000m 3-Turns race. Boats are sent off in 15-second intervals similar to the 2km race at South Islands and Nationals.
- Two Heats plus a (Divisional) Final in the 460m straight line race.
- Two Heats plus a Final in the 200m Dash
As with the other events, we’re offering 10-paddler boat races for those teams that can’t muster 20 paddlers. Please note that paddlers can’t mix between boats (i.e.no ‘waka jumping’) in any one race didtance. However, a club may use a partially different crew list in each of the race distances, so that you can designate some paddlers as 'specialist in 1k, 460m and/or 200m.
Please note this event will require the following:
- Mixed teams to have a minimum of 8 female and 8 male paddlers (Standard boat) and 4 female & 4 male paddlers (Small boat). Again, we all race in Big Boats
- Women's teams must all be female (incl the Sweep, Drummer and paddlers)
- Callers are mandatory for all divisions.
As a trial, our Drone Operator is setting the technology up to enable us to watch the live stream on the day, from Lake Ruger. if the setup goes well, the public wifi network will also have internet but we have capped the speeds so it doesn't overwhelm it.
