Dragon Wars (Tug of Oar)
Event information
Registrations for this event are closed.
Start and finish times TO BE CONFIRMED (based on weather, clearing rain etc). Venue is still Lake Rua.
This is an "on the water" tug of war. More accurately, it is "push" not "tug".
Six (6) paddlers from each team load into the same boat (Standard Boat). Two reserves are allowed per team.
- One team is in seats 1-3.
- Seats 4, 5, 6 and 7 are empty.
- And the other team is in seats 8-10.
- Teams face towards each other.
We will race two divisions - Women and Mixed. In the Mixed, there must be 3 males and 3 females
The boat is tethered by two ropes - bow and stern - held by umpires on shore. The first team to pull the other a certain distance wins. See this example - only 6 a side in this one, and in a pool - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbNaRE0gbXg
Overall winner will be decided by knockout. Eg if 8 teams are entered:
- Round 1 is team 1 versus team 2, then 3v4, 5v6, 7v8.
- Round 2 is the winner of 1v2 versus winner of 3v4, and the winner of 5v6 versus the winnr of 7v8.
- Round 3 (Final) is the winner of teams 1-4 versus winner of teams 5-8.
- Meanwhile the losers of Round 1 will have a similar play off.
An entry fee of $100 per team, with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each Division. More details to come, once the Events team have finalised.
