Event information

EVENT LOCATION:

The event is held on Menang Noongar Country in the small township of Elleker, situated 16 km west of Albany on the Lower Denmark Road.

Elleker was originally developed as a railway junction on the Torbay line by the Western Australian Land Company, who built the Great Southern Railway which was completed in 1889.

The start line is at the Elleker Hall, 19 Hassell Street, Elleker, WA. The hall was officially opened in 1920 closer to the railway line, but was later relocated next to the sports oval to increase its usage. The hall is managed by the Elleker Progress and Sporting Association and the Albany Athletics Club is grateful for their support and maintenance of the hall.

The course is on beautiful flat open country roads that wind past Kiangadarup (Lake Powell), potato farms, through tree-covered sections and over five different bridges.

At the start of the twentieth century the Kiangadarup had an extensive sandy beach, the water was clear and it was used for swimming and sailing. Now access is limited by the dense fringing vegetation and bullrushes, the lake is shallower and the bottom mudier. However the lake has become a much improved habitat for many bird species.

The course is largely flat and encourages fast racing and attacks on personal bests. There is a small hill on the back end of the course that has a small, but deceiving gradient. There is a small section of gravel for the half-marathon runners that needs to be negotiated with caution and all runners will finish with 50m of grass across the oval in front of hall.

Volunteer Sustainability

The Albany Retravision Elleker Running Festival runs on volunteers. There are no paid roles on the organising committee and all profits are used to fund the Albany Athletics Club and Albany Little Athletics Club programs.

Accessible

Through securing quality sponsors that align with our sense of community, we are able to minimise costs and barriers to runners. Sponsorships allow us to pay for the things critical to the event.

We'd love you to thank our sponsors and become their customers!

Encouraging

Our club thrives on its community feel and inclusive nature. When you are out on the course - please look after yourself and your fellow runners. Thank the volunteers, encourage runners as you pass them, and look out for younger runners.

We'd love you to stay and cheer the people who finish behind you!
