Uplock roller

Proposed New Uplock Roller from Marsh Bros

Earlier this year, we included some information about Marsh Bros Aviation.  They are now developing a further Beechcraft component and seek feedback from Australian Beechcraft owners and operators.  Since your first flight on a Beechcraft, you've been told as part of the preflight to inspect and check the uplock roller on the landing gear, one of the common points of failure in gear-up landings.  And you get a greasy finger as a result.

Marsh is developing a lubricant-free uplock roller to replace the OEM one.  In summary:

  • After discussion with many Baron and Bonanza owners at the American Bonanza Society 55th Convention and Trade Show, Marsh has put this project into its 2023 project schedule.
  • The MB Aviation Grease-Free (GF) roller is a drop-in replacement for greased needle roller bearings.  The GF roller never needs greasing because the lubricant is inherent in the engineered polymer.
  • Juan Rivera from Marsh commented: “It is a problem area that we were not aware of. But after hearing from so many owners and understanding the issue, this is the perfect application of our grease free roller bearing, currently being certified for the King Air flaps. We plan to use the same design modified for the uplock roller application. I think just knowing that the MB Aviation GF roller will never seize would bring peace-of-mind to any pilot.”
  • This project is perfect aligned with the philosophy at MB Aviation - applying their expertise and proprietary engineered polymers to introduce innovative products to aviation that offer improvements in the areas of maintainability, safety and operational reliability.
