Alstonville is a small rural town on the far north coast of New South Wales, one hour south of the Gold Coast in Qld and 15 minutes inland from the seaside town of Ballina.
Alstonville Junior Water Polo started out with only 28 members playing on a Friday morning between 7-8 am. Since those humble beginnings the club has expanded to as many as 230 juniors playing in both ends of the Alstonville Olympic Pool on Friday nights. Water polo could be described as the town's cult sport with many juniors also playing in the Monday night senior competition. Ian Ford, the head coach, is supported by assistant coaches and a very enthusiastic group of parents. Both the Junior and senior club are part of Far North Coast Water Polo.
Alstonville has produced teams that have won state & national titles and numerous players who have gone on to represent at state and national levels. However, it should be emphasised that the club's objective is to provide an enjoyable sporting and social experience for juniors and to encourage our young athletes to not only develop their skills and fitness and have fun but to also respect their opposition and play in the spirit of the game. Isn't that what junior sport is all about?
AJWP is open to all primary and high school age girls and boys.
